If Nothing Changes, Nothing Changes

“Nothing changes if nothing changes.”

I’ve always loved that simple, yet hugely complex, statement. Mostly because it’s So. Damn. True.

And I’m a huge fan of mindset shifts. Especially that thunderstruck “Aha!” moment. What feels better than a psychic shift??

Here’s what I don’t love.

Mindset “gurus” who tell you to think back to what you wanted to be when you were a child. Or the activities that set your soul on fire as a teenager.

Really?

I can barely remember what I ate for dinner last night.

More importantly, what difference does it make now? We were children. Blank slates. Believers in secret worlds, Santa Claus, and the Tooth Fairy.

We’ve lived so many lives since then.

And I doubt many of us still want to be prima ballerinas or astronauts.

Let it go already.

Here’s the other one I don’t love.

“Ask your friends and family what they think you’re best at.” Again, really?

We shouldn’t be borrowing either our sense of self or our future path from someone else’s opinion or observation.

Finding and developing your highest, most authentic self is an inside job. No one can tell you who you’re supposed to be.

Looking outside of ourselves for the answers just adds to our feeling of overwhelm, doubt, and shame.

As does trying, and failing, to remember something that happened decades ago.

So, let’s stop doing that too, okay?

Let’s just start from today. While yes, it’s important to learn the lessons of the past, it’s more important not to live there anymore.

So, where does your passion lie at this point in your life? How do you want to show up in the world now? Who do you want to help today? What gifts do you have to offer now?

Life is challenging enough. Why make it more so by reaching back for things or feelings that just don’t matter anymore?

Live your life with forward momentum. The only things you have control over are where you are right now and where you’re going tomorrow.

So, eyes forward, dear heart. The best is yet to come.

Always love to hear from you! Please hit replay and let me know your thoughts.

Sending you all so much love.

❤️Alissa
